Harley Davidson Boots - A Piece Of Americana

By Bill Mallett

The Saga of Leather and Steel

"Makin' a curve or takin' the strain

On the decline, or out on the wain

Oh everybody breaks down sooner or later

We'll put it to rights, we'll square up and mend

Back on your feet to take the next bend

You weather every storm that's comin' at cha
And I'm heading out to the highway

I got nothin' to lose at all

I'm goin' to do it my way

Take a chance before I fall

A chance before I fall"
That was British Heavy Metal Gods Judas Priest screaming about the immensity of living in a free spirit way back in the early 1980s. And for them, like millions others across the globe, that very essence of freedom and lifestyle was literally synonymous to Harley Davidson motor cycles and accessories.
Just like the bikes, the Harley Davidson boots also became a craze among bikers, MCs and OMGs all over. Many thought that if the Harley Davidson bikes meant freedom of lifestyle, then the Harley Davidson boots reflected the freedom of articulation. In fact, some bike fanatics even went to the extent of saying that it was the boots that made one stand out in a gang, irrespective of the bike he was riding.
Anyone has got to say, there is no point denying the fact that Harley Davidson boots are, in a short phrase, finesse personified. With their metal and leather manufacture, flat heel and rugged soles settled on the pegs, they are any day a man's dream.
Hence, its no wonder that Harley(s) made repeated appearances in popular culture including Marlon Brando's "The Wild One" and later became associated with a number of legendary Heavy Metal bands like Motorhead, Judas Priest, Saxon and Manowar to name a few sparking off a frenzied fan following of the name itself. After all, its all about the "...spirit of the wheels..."
